The painting Black Untitled was painted in 1948 by Willem de Kooning. At first, the artwork does not represent anything to me, but as I continue to see and interpret it, I realize that it means more or less the world we live in now. Why do I compare a painting with the world we are currently living in.? Because our world is turning dark, people have fewer feelings and are more involved with technology that causes violence. Because people don’t speak or converse, even adults no longer pay attention to children. So in our world, there is a total imbalance, the same imbalance that we can observe in painting. If we look at the painting, we can see that there are only two colors, white and black; therefore, we can see that black is the most predominant color in that painting. In this painting, you can see how Willem painted some people in white color, and we can observe other people represented with the color black. Willem draws a person smoking a cigar, and he is like walking in a hurry. You can observe a penguin’s shape at the bottom left of the painting, representing a child who goes to school since the penguin has a small backpack with him. Below the painting on the right side, you can see a thin white line. These lines come together and form two people, one on top of the other fighting. These two people’s bodies’ emptiness is represented entirely with the color black, which means violent, aggressive people, full of evil, and that’s why I feel like it is very close to the world we are living in now.
