The passage of life

Palmeras

The painting painted by Mario Grullon has an essential meaning for me because it reminds me of my country. Cuba is a beautiful country, full of many riches like natural ecological, and minerals. But at the same time, Cuba is suffering, Cuba suffers because its citizens do not know how to take care of it or exploit it.
This painting, painted by Mario Grullon, is a beautiful landscape; it has tall palms facing the sky, large mountains that seem unreachable, an endless path that takes you towards the mountains but passes through the palms. But at the same time, the painting has wind, winds that blow hard trying to knock down the tall palms, and it does not succeed, and it has sad clouds, sad like the gray color that depresses you just by looking at them.
What caught my attention about this painting is that it has beautiful contrast. It has drawn nature, that it should be green and illuminated in that way, the painter could transmit joy and happiness, but instead, this landscape shows the spirit in a cloudy, opaque, and Dark.
That is why it relates so much to my country. You see, Cuba is a beautiful country, if you go as tourists, on vacation. It fills you with happiness; it has music everywhere, old buildings that in their time were beautiful. It also has crystalline beaches, which look like mirrors since you can see your feet through the water. The food is delicious, and the people are friendly. If you go to Cuba as a tourist or on vacation, you will enjoy it as it is beautiful and fills you with joy. But the real face of Cubans is different.
An example is those buildings that tourists see as beautiful, with old architecture, are falling. Those buildings have withstood strong winds through the years, but they are still standing, like palms that can withstand storms. To know the real face of Cuba, you have to live in it. To understand its sadness, darkness, and tempest, you have to be inside Cuba and live together in the day to day, as in the painting, to know how dangerous and sad a cloudy day is in the mountains, you have to experience it.
